Description

BIOVERSAL foam concentrate is an additive for class A, B and F fires.

The NF S 61-919 standard and the manufacturer's recommendations are linked to replacement of the dose every 5 years.

The periodic inspection of auxiliary pressure devices, mainly manufactured in France, requires the device to be opened annually.

BIOVERSAL contains a film-forming emulsifier.
The film-forming foams listed all contain PFAS (AFFF and AFFF-AR with a synthetic base, then FFFP and FFFP-AR with a protein base) .

Handling pressure equipment with chemicals is risky. It is carried out by competent technicians. For example, holder of a fire extinguisher verification agent CAP.

Safety data sheet available online on the Bioversal website.

Additive with or without fluorine, what to choose?

For a fire extinguisher, PFAS are for example potentially present in the additive, in the paint and in the coating of the hose.
To date, there are no regulations preventing the manufacture, import and distribution of fluorinated products. Since 2024, there has been a regulatory basis for assessing the penalty incurred when releasing PFAS into the environment.

Additives with fluorine benefit from a dedicated processing chain with approved companies. Ultimately, it is the good practices of the maintenance company that make the difference.

- Fire extinguishers with premixed fluorinated agent (mainly permanent pressure devices)
The risk of pollution is high. The cost of treatment is high.
Average extinguishing power for class A fires for a 6 L: 13A to 34A

- Fire extinguisher with fluorinated agent in separate dose (the majority of auxiliary pressure devices)
The risk of pollution is limited. The processing cost is low.
Average extinguishing power for class A fires for a 6 L: 13A to 27A

- “Fluorine-free” premixed fire extinguisher
The risk of pollution varies, taking into account the presence of other products not currently affected by regulatory restrictions.
Processing costs are currently low.
Average extinguishing power for class A fires for a 6 L: 13A to 21A

- “Fluorine-free” fire extinguisher in separate dose
The risk of pollution varies, taking into account the presence of other products not currently affected by regulatory restrictions.
Processing costs are low.
Average extinguishing power for class A fires for a 6 L: 13A

- Additive-free water extinguisher
Average extinguishing power for class A fires for a 6 L: 13A

Finally,

Should a fire extinguisher have significant or limited extinguishing power?

For companies linked to the APSAD standard, is it acceptable for a 9L fire extinguisher to put out less well than a 6L fire extinguisher?
