The European Union mandates the replacement or "conversion" of fire extinguishers by December 31, 2030 (other specific deadlines exist for SEVESO sites and fires involving polar solvents). This legislation is linked to the labeling of fluorinated fire extinguishers in circulation, starting October 23, 2026.
It makes sense to stop the production of PFAS. No public interest justifies this law, which encourages the premature release of a functional product into the environment in order to hastily produce other dangerous chemicals (not yet banned).
