fire extinguisher hoses during mandatory annual inspections
Maintenance procedures include, during the annual inspection, checking for blockages in the rubber hose by blowing, particularly for powder extinguishers where impact or inverting the unit can cause the powder to become trapped in the hose. This is in line with European standards. For example, in France, standard NF S61-919 specifies that it is necessary to: "Ensure that [...] the nozzle is neither blocked nor cracked."
Packaged in a single bag, this plastic blow nozzle prevents direct contact between the technician's mouth and the soiled nozzle of the fire extinguisher hose.
Furthermore, the variability of colors helps to limit occasional errors between technicians.
Taking into account the cleanliness of hands and gloves, storage for a maximum period of one week is recommended, in a dedicated container, or an airtight bag.
1. Disassemble the fire extinguisher head and/or the hose according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
2. Unpack the plastic nozzle,
3. Fit the nozzle into the fire extinguisher diffuser,
4. Inspire,
5. Press the diffusion handle and blow into the mouthpiece.
If the hose is indeed blocked, twist it manually every 10 cm and start again from step 3.
