This galvanized steel cable Ø 2.50 mm (length 250 m) is designed to connect the mechanical winch to the outlet in smoke extraction systems. Delivered on a reel, it facilitates unrolling and storage operations and limits restrictive handling during work at height.
Compliant with NF S 61-932 and ISO 2408 standards, the cable has a metal core and a tensile strength of at least 1,770 N/mm² depending on the manufacturing process. Its 7-strand, 7-wire construction provides it with resistance to the mechanical stresses of smoke extraction systems.
The cable is attached at the bottom to the cable clamp present in the mechanical winch and at the top to the cable clamp present on the multiplier fuse, and must be protected by a protective tube on the handling area up to at least 2 m from the ground.
The maximum recommended length is 15 m if the route is visible from the ground, otherwise 8 m.
Up to three pulleys can be used, each turn must respect a minimum angle of 70° and not exceed 110° of change of direction per pulley.
These requirements are intended to ensure the regular opening and closing of the outlet .

During maintenance operations, it is recommended:
- To grease the cable along the operating parts
- Check for broken wires or strands
- To check corrosion and the condition of mechanical protections
- To carry out a trigger test
The NF S 61-933 standard specifies the maintenance rules.
The inspection frequency is at least once a year for ERP and homes, and must be defined for workplaces by the operations manager (generally 1 year).
If this is not done every year, we recommend including in the maintenance contract periodic interventions allowing the mobilization of men and lifting equipment to check the top of the smoke extraction systems (sealing, outlet, fuse, jacks).
